What is the land that God promised to Israel?.

The constant turmoil and fighting in the Middle East in great measure is related to the ownership of land currently claimed by both Israel and the Arab nations by way of the Palestinian people.

To ignore what the Bible says regarding this ownership is foolishness – and leads to continued confusion and compromise on the part of Israel as well as the rest of the secular world.

Genesis 15:18 declares, “To your descendants [Abraham’s] I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.” God later confirms this promise to Abraham’s son Isaac, and Isaac’s son Jacob (whose name was later changed to Israel). When the Israelites were about to invade the Promised Land, God reiterated the land promise, as recorded in Joshua 1:4, “Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates — all the Hittite country — to the Great Sea on the west.”

With Genesis 15:18 and Joshua 1:4 in mind, the land God gave to Israel included everything from the Nile river in Egypt to Lebanon (North to South) and everything from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (West to East). So, what land has God stated belongs to Israel? All of the land modern Israel currently possesses, plus all of the land of the Palestinians (the West Bank and Gaza), plus some of Egypt and Syria, plus all of Jordan, plus some of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Israel currently possesses only a fraction of the land God has promised.

Such land ownership by Israel has not happened in recorded history – and thus it is prophecy that is yet to be fulfilled.

A wide variety of viewpoints exist as to when this future prophecy will be manifested – but needless to say it(the land ownership) is quite different than that which the world currently sees as Israel’s rights to land ownership.

Strangely, Islamic beliefs are based to a large extent on direct plagiarism of many Old Testment writings which clearly describes this future land ownership by Israel and which begs the question of why Islamic followers do not realize that they are facing some serious and devastating times ahead.

On the other hand, the Christian Gospel is not a proposition to be negotiated through dialogue and compromise as today’s global leaders appear to be doing.  Anti-semitism is on the rise worldwide – and leaders who should know better rely on their human abilities rather than the promises of God to both Israel and the Gentile nations.  For a look at just how this anti-semitism has infected both the Protestant and Catholic churches, see

For an in-depth and theologically exhaustive study of this land issue, I recommend “Who Owns the Land” by Stanley A. Ellisen and publshed by Multnomah Press in Portland, Oregon.  Dr. Ellison is well qualified to espouse his clear and concise views on the subject.

Israel has always been God’s timepiece – and historical focus – what happened there has directed the course of history to this point – and what happens there in the future will be a precise fulfillment of biblical prophecy which spans both the New and Old Testaments.

Read and be both encouraged and wise on this subject.
