Catholic church again deflecting responsibility on child abuse…

Desperate to unwind the seemingly endless set of accusations of pedophilia and child abuse within the ranks of the Catholic priesthood, the church commissioned a study by John Jay College to attempt to deflect accusations of homosexuality, celibacy and the impact of an all-male priesthood in these problems.

While this new study gives some gravity to the fact that most of the abuse occurred in the 1970’s era of free and open sex in the secular community – it fails the litmus test for most other issues since the data for the study came from the bishops themselves.

No independent data points were included in this study – and the fox still controls the henhouse…and although the Catholic Church can easily sustain itself through virtually any type of financial hardship imposed by the courts, its primary motive with this  study is to try to erase from the public mind the fact that homosexuality may indeed be endemic within the priesthood.

While sexual improprieties occur throughout the religious realm, the Catholic Church is unique in its historical attempts to move known offenders from one place to another to try to erase the results of child abuse from its record.  All of this is becoming part of the public record and such a study, slanted by design, will not change the fact that thousands of lives of young lives were spiritually and emotionally destroyed by priests who repeatedly took advantage of naive and vulnerable children.

Protestant and Jewish religious organizations for the most part cleanse the issue by immediate removal of the offender or by public apologies by the offending church pastor or elder.   While the temptation is there in all religions, the Catholic Church has created an environment of an all-male, celibate operation – and cannot retract those ideologies – and studies such as the John Jay one are simply an attempt to place the blame elsewhere…

More recent episodes of child molestation by parish priests are considered “an anomaly”, as described by Bishop Blase Cupich of the Diocese of Spokane, WA.  AN ANOMALY??  Of course, continuing denial is in order so as to add weight to the John Jay study results that place the problem in a timeframe removed a full generation into the past.

In Philadelphia(the reference above), 21 priests were suspended on March 08, 2011 based on child molestation.  Any attempt to put this type of activity in the 1970’s is simply an outright lie and an attempt to absolve the church of any wrongdoing.

Whichever religious order or church condones and suppresses information regarding child molestation by its staff or priest or minister will have much to answer for at the judgment to come.

Matthew 18:6 says:

“…whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believed in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea”.
